New York City

Our first evening in the Big Apple we strolled down Times Square. We could feel the electricity of the city, bright neon lights flashing, vast amounts of people either coming or going  from dinner, the theater, or shopping. Our hotel was located in the heart of the theater district. We saw two great Broadway Shows. “Wicked” and “Jersey Boys”. We spent the next day with a local guide and  took a three hour Walking and Eating Tour of Greenwich Village. We explored  the winding tree lined streets, learned the history of  the West Village and sampled food at charming eateries. This was the authentic New York City tour we were most excited about. We also enjoyed seeing, the Empire State Building, the Stature of Liberty, the famous Bull on Wallstreet and numerous other sights.

The famous jazz club Birdland, built in 1949 and  named after the jazz musician Charlie “Yardbird” Parker, was a  great place to unwind, listen to live Jazz and have a glass of wine. We also enjoyed B.B. King’s Bar and watched a live band doing a tribute to Bob Dylan. Whatever your taste in music is, you are sure to find it in the Big Apple. Another unique tour offered in the city, is an escorted Bike Tour of Central Park. On the bike tour you will see where John Lennon was honored, learn the history of  Harlem and surrounding area. The gem of the tour was being allowed into a historical church in Harlem and listening to the parish sing. What a privilege!

The great thing about shopping in New York City, is that there is something for everyone. Whether you are shopping at Macy’s, the most famous department store in the city, or shopping for great deals at the discount stores. There is such a wide variety of store choices, that you can shop till you drop!! The Big Apple has many, many choices for entertainment, attractions, dining, and shopping.
